Today’s guest is Lesley Thornton, an esthetician, formulator, and founder of the clean and sustainable skincare brand KLUR. But before Lesley launched her own brand, she spent years working in different roles in beauty, from selling True Colors eyeshadow pigments at the mall to working on set as a professional makeup artist. Lesley has learned a lot about how the industry works, what it takes to formulate a quality skincare product, and how to run a beauty brand. As a Black beauty business owner, she also has advice for consumers on how we can continue to support Black-owned beauty businesses for years to come. Check out our episode to hear what ingredient is most underrated (hint: it helps support the regeneration of vitamin C), why we should stop demonizing physical exfoliation, and why “non-toxic” doesn’t mean “natural.”
